Zarautz: more than 50 years of nativity scene

The Zarautz nativity scene is much more than a set of figures: it is a classic during these Christmas holidays.

You could say that it is a must-visit at this time, a tradition that all the inhabitants of Zarautz carry out year after year. And the truth is that it is no wonder after setting the scene for the Christmas holidays for more than five decades.

The first Christmas nativity scene was made in 1961 and since then the Narros Palace has hosted this static nativity scene every year. The Schola Cantorum parish choir took the reins of the organization of the nativity scene in the beginning, in the same way as the Three Kings Parade, and today they continue to organize it with great enthusiasm.

Some of the nativity figures have been maintained since the beginning. In 1987 the association reached an agreement with the Zarautz City Council to renew the figures and in the following year, in 1988, they provided movement for the first time to some of them, such as the wings of the angels or that of the pigeons.

The Nativity scene can be visited until next January 7 at the following times: from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
