Sustainability and ethics, leading players in World Responsible Tourism Day

Every 2 June, and for ten years, this day is dedicated to reflecting on a model of tourism in which our destinations are a reference

In recent years, the Basque Country has become a reference for quality tourism in which responsibility, sustainability and good ethical practices have become great objectives for a sector that devotes every 2 June to promoting more respectful tourism with the planet and its inhabitants.

The celebration of this day, dedicated to the reflection on the need to change the tourist model, is of particular importance in this 2020, at which time COVID19 has made us stop to think and value aspects and initiatives in which the Basque Country has been working with initiatives such as the Guide to the Responsible Tourist for years. Established in our Destinations since last summer, it is a practical guide to advice based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the UNWTO World Code of Ethics for Tourism and the Global Charter of Sustainable Tourism ST+20.
