Michelin-starred restaurants in the Basque Country in 2023

The French gastronomy guide recognises the work of a total of 23 Basque restaurants.

The Michelin Guide 2023 has announced the traditional distribution of stars that accredit the best restaurants in the world.
This is the complete list, by historical territory, of the Basque restaurants awarded.
Araba/Álava
Two restaurants in the province of Alava will have at least one Michelin star in 2023. The novelty of this new edition is Edorta Lamo’s El Arrea! in Santa Cruz de Campezo, which obtains its first star. And the restaurant of the Marqués de Riscal hotel, headed by chef Francis Paniego, has managed to keep the one it had thanks to its excellent cuisine in the town of Elciego.
Gipuzkoa
Gipuzkoa boasts a total of 16 Michelin stars, maintaining at the top its traditional “three stars”, which reign supreme in Basque gastronomy thanks to Juan Mari and Elena Arzak, Pedro Subijana and Martín Berasategui. These gastronomic temples are joined by: Mugaritz (Errenteria), Amelia (Donostia/San Sebastián), Elkano (Getaria), Kokotxa (Donostia/San Sebastián) and Alameda (Hondarribia).
Bizkaia
For its part, Bizkaia still has twelve Michelin-starred restaurants. Eneko Atxa’s Azurmendi in Larrabetzu maintains its three awards. The remaining eleven have been awarded one: Nerua (Bilbao), Etxebarri (Atxondo), Zortziko (Bilbao), Etxanobe (Bilbao), Boroa (Amorebieta), Eneko (Larrabetzu), Andra Mari (Galdakao), Garena (Dima) and the Bilbao restaurants: Zarate, Mina and MB Ola.
