The longest voyage: the first journey around the world

The exhibition tells and celebrates the first round-the-world voyage of Elcano and Magallanes

The San Telmo Museum in Donostia-San Sebastián is hosting, until 24 October, the exhibition “The longest voyage: the first round-the-world voyage”, to celebrate the 5th Centenary of Magellan and Elcano’s first round-the-world voyage. The exhibition comes to the museum as an opportunity to vindicate and publicise the figure of Elcano. The collections, conserved in the San Telmo Museum and Gordailua, is the heritage that witnesses the strong link between the Basque Country and the sea and navigation.

Guided tours of the exhibition will be available on Tuesdays and Saturdays in both Spanish and Basque for the duration of the exhibition. These visits will be free of charge, but the museum ticket must be purchased in advance and a place must be reserved.

The museum has also organised a series of conferences and activities to explore the exhibition from different perspectives: conferences, round table, San Telmo Gaua, screenings, shows, children’s and family activities and a master class.
