On September 9, the feast of Virgin of Arantzazu, Zarautz celebrates a Basque Festival also known as Euskal Jaia (Basque Festival) is a festival celebrating Basque culture, local folklore that takes place over a whole week (from 1 to 9). Created in 1924, in order to prolong the stay of tourists in the town, they have achieved great popular roots, and gather much of the Basque festive traditions.
In these days the streets are filled with groups of dantzaris (Basque dancers), accompanied by txistus and other native instruments.
