Return to the streets the Alarde de Hondarribia

After more than 1,000 days of waiting, due to the pandemic, the patron saint festivities of Hondarribia return, in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe.

Joy, sport, good atmosphere, culture, tradition, gastronomy and activities for all audiences are the proposals that the city offers.

The festivities begin on September 7 with the txupinazo, the children’s running of the bulls with inflatable bulls and the parade of presentation of the bartenders, accompanied by the Music Band.

Although the main and iconic act of the festivities is celebrated on September 8, when the whole city is dressed in red and white for its traditional Alarde. Hondarribia commemorates the vow made to the Virgin of Guadalupe in 1,639, in gratitude for the victory over the French troops and the salvation from invasion during the Hundred Years’ War.

The companies under the orders of the Burgomaster or General, parade and make numerous and noisy discharges of weapons throughout the municipality until they reach the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Guadalupe, located on Mount Jaizkibel.
