The global HomeAway platform, an expert in vacation rentals, recently launched the second edition of the Family-friendly destinations initiative that seeks to publicize the state destinations preferred by families for the holidays. The competition divides the participating towns into three categories: Coast, urban and Rural.
Hondarribia is one of the six municipalities that are part of the Costa category in this edition, competing with Combarro (Pontevedra), Ribadesella (Asturias), Peñíscola (Castellón), Fornells (Menorca) and Chiclana de la Frontera (Cádiz).
As indicated from the platform, the indicators that were taken into account for the preselection of the candidatures in the category of coast were the safety, the cleanliness and the maintenance of its beaches, the quality of the water of the sea, the service of lifeguard and the accessibility and the non-overcrowding of its coastline.
The choice of winners will be made by online voting that includes a total of 18 candidates previously elected through the platform’s social networks.
According to the regional Director for Southern Europe of HomeAway, Juan Carlos Fenández, after a successful first edition, the company has decided to repeat the initiative as a method of promotion to the best valued cities. Therefore, it encouraged users to vote for their favorite destinations before 10.00 hours on May 27th.
