Saturday and Sunday Vitoria-Gasteiz organizes the III International Historical Reenactment of the Battle of Vitoria. About 500 reenactors from different parts of Europe represent the daily life of a camp at the time, instruction and use of arms during the 28 and 29 May 2016. In the open fields of Olarizu historical reenactments be held fighting between the French and allied armies.
Furthermore, the reenactors held a parade to honor all those who died in the Battle of Vitoria and General Álava.
It was in 1813, when in Vitoria-Gasteiz and Alava came the decisive military confrontation in the course of European history: the Battle of Vitoria.
The city is part of the European Federation of Napoleonic Cities and biennially organizes a historical re-enactment of the battle. In March 2015, the Council of Europe declared the Napoleonic different routes as European Cultural Route.
