Annual

From the baritone Ettore Bastianini to Luciano Pavarotti, Renata Scotto, Mirella Freni, Montserrat Caballé, Alfredo Kraus, Plácido Domingo or Ainhoa Arteta… And even María Callas, who performed in the city in 1959.

The Bilbao Association of Friends of the Opera (ABAO) has been operating for over 6 decades and its many successes over the years has placed its season on a par with those of the leading theatres.

The Association has a large membership, many of whom are from outside the Basque Country, and audience figures of over 100,000. The 60 performances at the Euskalduna Conference Centre and Music Hall are rounded off with an extensive programme aimed at turning its slogan, “Opera for Everyone”, into reality.
