Easter in Hondarribia is as beautiful as the city and attracts the largest number of visitors.
Today, its processions are only held on Good Friday. On that day, 10 images that represent the passion and death of Jesus are carried through the old cobbled streets of the medieval quarter.
Another of the traditional features of Easter in Hondarribia is the fall of the Roman soldiers which is enacted on Sunday during the mass which is held at 10 in the morning and after the Procesión del Encuentro (Procession of the Encounter).
Once the mass has concluded, the soldiers get up, as if resuscitated and parade through the streets holding their spears and swords the wrong way around.
