Hondarribia - Irun

At the mouth of the Bidasoa River is the Bay of Txingudi, with Hondarribia and Irun.

What to see in Irún and Hondarribia

The first of these is a beautiful fortified villa where you can visit the neighborhood of La Marina, with its colorful fishermen’s houses, pintxos bars and restaurants.

The Fishermen’s Guild shows the activity of this fishing port that offers such high quality products. Its historic centre should be strolled to discover its beautiful squares and its monumental richness: Arma Plaza, the Emperor Carlos V Castle (now the National Parador) and the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption.

A pleasant experience, weather permitting, is to travel by boat to the neighbouring French town of Hendaye, sailing on Txingudi Bay. In July the town hosts the Hondarribia Blues Festival, an appointment to write down on the calendar.

Irun surprises with an intense commercial life and it also has an outstanding cultural and monumental offer. In the visit to Irun one cannot miss a visit to the nearby Roman Museum OIASSO, which contains much of the findings from the most important Roman site in Euskadi.
