This year marks the 11th edition of the “Poetas en Mayo” festival in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

After the success of last year’s return to the in-person format after the pandemic, Poets in May returns this year with more activities throughout the month such as competitions, concerts, recitals… in which both local and guest poets will participate. This year, the names of this event are Anari, Marwan, Sheila Blanco or the Ceylonese poet Indran Amirthanayagam among others.

This edition will also bring our city to life with established events such as Poesía en los Caños, Usoen Eguna and Mirando al mar, with poets who will enliven and fill the city with their verses, attracting both, young and adult audiences.

This edition is especially dedicated to Mexico, with the show Cruz del Olvido or the tribute to Juan Záiar Altar de Muertos.

New locations will be added to the previous ones, such as the Basilica of Armentia, the Parador of Argómaniz or the panoramic terrace of the Kora Green City aparthotel. In addition to this, a Poetry Van will travel around several towns and will leave the open mic for the neighbourhood to contribute sayings and proverbs. There will also be Poetry Bingo with surprises.

As if that were not enough, the festival will bring the sea to Vitoria, specifically to the rooftop of the Mercado de Abastos, where you can enjoy recitals from comfortable hammocks.

In this edition we will continue with one of the most important activities in the festival, which is the “Páginas de Cristal” (Glass Pages), which aims to turn the city’s shop windows into a poetic tour, writing poems with felt-tip pens on the windows of commercial and hotel and catering establishments.
