September 2nd to 13th Plaza Nueva Square, in the middle of the old town of Bilbao, will be home to one of the most important chess tournaments in history. World's six best players will be present: the world's champion and number one Viswanathan Anand, Magnus Carlsen, Vasili Ivanchuk, Véselin Topálov, Teimour Radyábov and Levon Aronián.

Players will be isolated inside a soundproofed and air-conditioned glass case situated under a large marquee. In addition, there will be high-quality broadcasting via the Internet, television and radio with commentators, interviews and analysis by great masters such as Boris Spassky and Susan Polgar.

Every day, the magnificent setting will play host to many parallel activities, paying attention to public of varied ages. Remarkable activities are as follows: I International Open "Federación Vizcaína de Ajedrez", Rapid Game Tournament "Villa de Bilbao" and IV Euskadi Championship on Chess Problems Resolution. Moreover, on Sunday September 7th, coinciding with a friendly match arranged by Bilbao's Athletic Club at San Mamés stadium a rapid game will be played right in the centre of the field during the half-time of the match by two legends in the world of chess.
