Near Vitoria-Gasteiz you will find spaces with a high ecological value and great diversity of ecosystems and landscapes, such as Salburua with its Interpretation Center of the Salburua wetlands and the Ullibarri Gamboa dam; The Ornithological Park of Mendixur; Protected areas such as the Lagunar Complex of Laguardia in the middle of Rioja Alavesa, the Izki Natural Park, the Valderejo Natural Park, the Southern Sierras of Álava and the Sierra Salvada are the spaces of Alava that will not disappoint you.
In the region of Bidasoa, Txingudi Bay shared by the municipalities of Hendaia, Irun and Hondarribia, is declared ZEPA and LIC, and is also included in the list of Ramsar Wetlands. It has an information center in the access to Plaiaundi Ecological Park.
The tourist offices and offices of the Natural Parks (Parketxe) have extensive information and in some cases they provide equipment and services for bird watching.
At 40 minutes from Bilbao we find the Urdaibai estuary, one of the most important wetlands in Euskadi. Urdaibai Bird Center is a privileged observatory located in the marsh in the heart of the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, which also has other protection figures such as LIC, ZEPA and Ramsar Wetland.
