Vitoria-Gasteiz

Medieval City Walls

muralla

Almost a thousand years have gone by since this wall was built to protect the old town of Vitoria-Gasteiz during the second half of the 11th century. The small human community protected within grew until it became the city it is today, a process that took centuries and was long enough for it to be used and forgotten several times.

What is open to the public today is a small part of a more ambitious project, which aims, in time, to embrace the whole area occupied by primitive Gasteiz during the early medieval centuries.
