Bilbao, finalist for the World Design Capital 2014
Known popularly as the Plaza Nueva of Bilbao, this square is one of the most interesting neoclassical squares in the Basque Country, where this kind of monument is common: Vitoria, San Sebastián... The construction of the square came about as a result of a period of major economic expansion in which, from the end of the 18th-century, a number of different areas of the city were rebuilt.
