The municipal nature
of this Square can be seen in the distribution of its interior
facades of which only that of the Town Hall stands out from
the rest. This characteristic would be a constant feature
in the design of a number of main squares in Spain from the
times of the Hapsburgs. The construction of this square came
about as a result of the first expansion of Vitoria-Gasteiz
in the modern era, and is also one of the most outstanding
examples of urban architecture.
