ALARDE (DISPLAY)

The Alarde of San Marcial is held in the city of Irun. This is a fiesta which commemorates the victory of the inhabitants of the town in their many battles against their French neighbours. Thousands of its citizens, wearing uniforms and organised into companies each with their respective barmaid, and wearing red berets, wait for the orders of their general, who bursts through the troops on horseback, to fire their shotguns into the air. This popular fiesta is celebrated on June 30.
