This Museum, which
is dedicated solely to archaeology, represents a synthesis
of the history of the province of Alava from prehistoric times
to the founding of Vitoria. Through an examination of the
remains obtained through archaeological excavations it is
possible to trace the history of the different peoples who
have inhabited the province over the centuries. Today, the
museum does not only exhibit the remains of the past but also
documents, researches, conserves and disseminates these relics
among the public and the scientific community.
The items on show correspond to the cultures that developed
in Alava between the Palaeolithic and the Middle Ages: Palaeolithic
and Epipalaeolithic. Neolithic and Eneolithic-Calcolithic.
Bronze and Iron Ages. Romanisation. The Middle Ages.
