From April 20 to 23 of this year, in the waves of the city of Gipuzkoa will be played this championship that attracts more than 200 participants, the best surfers in Europe. It is organized by the World Surf League and the Guipuzcoan Surf Federation, with the support of the Zarautz City Council, the Diputación of Gipuzkoa and the Basque Government.

An event that transforms the city and is highly desirable even if you do not surf, since it generates a great atmosphere. Concerts, exhibitions of Basque rural sport…. “We have sea and mountain, tradition and modernity. Not only in summer, “said the mayor of Zarautz, Xabier Txurruka.

During the presentation at Fitur (Madrid) was noted as a novelty that this year goes up, going from QS1000 to QS1500 to reach $ 40,000 – some 37,630 euros – of prizes, matching the podiums in the men’s and women’s categories. Pro Zarautz is one of the oldest tests of the European tour and scoring for the Qualifying Series qualifying circuit of the World Surf League (WSL). It has a strategic position in the European calendar, just after the consecutive scales of Santa Cruz (Portugal) and Anglet (France).

It should be remembered that Zarautz is home to great surfers like Aritz Aranburu, Hodei Collazo, Axi Muniain or Ibon Amatriain and one of the most active talent factories on the national scene.
