For the “indisputable prestige and quality of Basque cuisine and supporting the candidacy of some of its leading representatives as Juan Mari and Elena Arzak, Pedro Subijana and Martin Berasategui, among others,” Vitoria-Gasteiz has been gotten with the award of Spanish Capital of Gastronomy in 2014.
The jury has unanimously appointed, beating Huesca, Valencia and Sant Carles de la Ràpita .
An “imaginative, intense and open to participation” program, as it has qualified the jury, which will make Vitoria- Gasteiz in the “city of appetizer”.
Now more than ever the opportunity to visit the capital of Alava to enjoy scheduled events: Black Truffle Fair Alava (Feria de la Trufa Negra de Álava), Week Casserole and Wine (Semana de la Cazuelita y el Vino), the feast of San Prudencio with tamborradas formed by chefs and representatives of 214 gastronomic societies of Alava, Txakoli Day, the Traditional Fair of the Sal de Añana, the Fiestas de La Blanca, the Harvest Festival in Rioja Alavesa, the Pinta Bean of Alava Fair in Pobes, Pintxo Week of Álava, Gastronomic Competition Societies and the International Championship Potatoes with Chorizo, among others.
The title of ‘Spanish Capital of Gastronomy’ was created by the Spanish Federation of Hotels and Restaurants (FEHR) and the Spanish Federation of Journalists and Travel Writers (FEPET) to boost traffic to locations with a distinct cuisine.
